Just watched some of the free videos on screencasting.com from Aaron Francis, and I think I'm going to buy this one. I'm already applying some of Aaron's pieces of advice I heard in the wild, and everything I've heard so far has been fantastic.Artem Zakharchenko
When it comes to delivering a smooth and professional video, using a teleprompter can be a game-changer. While some creators, like Aaron, prefer a freeform approach, others find that a teleprompter helps them stay organized and confident on camera. Let's explore how a teleprompter can work for you.
I use the Elgato Teleprompter, which attaches directly to my camera lens and connects to my computer. From the computer’s perspective, it’s simply another monitor. While Elgato offers its own script-scrolling feature through its Camera Hub App, I often prefer to keep it simple by using a Google Doc.
By dragging a Google Doc with my script onto the teleprompter’s screen, I can easily scroll through it as I record. This method is flexible and effective, giving me complete control over how I deliver my content.
Yes, I use a script, and I’m using one right now! But it’s not a rigid, word-for-word document. Instead, I write my scripts in a conversational tone that mirrors how I would naturally speak. To avoid sounding robotic, I deliberately add moments where I go off-script and ad-lib. These unscripted bits create a more authentic, relatable experience for the viewer.
The script serves as a structure—my guardrails to ensure I stay on track. But those natural deviations bring life to the video, making it feel like a genuine conversation rather than a recital.
For sections where I want to be particularly clear and precise, I stick to the script. However, when I want to emphasize a point or add a personal story, I break away from the written text. This balance allows me to convey information effectively while still maintaining an engaging tone.
Using a teleprompter doesn’t make you any less of a creator. It’s simply a tool that enhances your ability to communicate. Just like anything else, the more you practice using it, the better and more natural your delivery will become.
Remember, making videos is hard. I’ll be the first to admit I was nervous when I started recording this course. It took time and practice to feel comfortable on camera. If a teleprompter makes that process easier for you, embrace it! The goal is to get your message across confidently, and a teleprompter can be a valuable ally.
Whether you choose to use a teleprompter or not, the most important thing is creating content that resonates with your audience. If you find yourself struggling with memorization or feeling overwhelmed, a teleprompter might be the perfect solution. Don’t hesitate to try it out and see how it impacts your workflow and delivery.
In the end, anything that helps you overcome challenges and get your work out into the world is a win. And if using a teleprompter gives you that extra boost of confidence, go for it!
