The ultimate guide to effective screencasting

Hey y'all! Welcome to Screencasting.com. I'm Aaron Francis, and I'm excited you're here. I've produced almost a thousand videos across different courses, YouTube channels, and product demos, and I’ve learned a lot along the way. My goal is to teach you everything I know about screencasting — quickly and efficiently — without sacrificing quality.

Why screencasting matters

Screencasting is an incredibly valuable skill. It transformed my career, starting with my first course: Introduction to Financial Accounting for Sophomore College Students at Texas A&M University. I didn’t have a massive following — I started by handing out flyers on campus! Since then, screencasting has opened countless doors for me, and it can do the same for you.

What you’ll learn

In this course, we’ll cover:

  • Defining your audience
  • Planning and outlining your content
  • Choosing the right equipment
  • Mastering the recording process
  • Simplifying the editing process
  • Publishing your course

Defining your audience

Knowing your audience is key to producing content they’ll love. Who are you making this video for? What problems are you solving for them? Take the time to figure that out upfront.

Planning and outlining

A well-structured plan will save you hours during recording and editing. Define your topics, create a rough outline, and break down your content into manageable sections.

Choosing the right equipment

You don’t need expensive gear. I’m going to convince you to work with what you have. It’s easy to get caught up in buying the latest gadgets, but a simple setup is often the best choice. If you want to go crazy with equipment, I’ll share some higher-priced options too.

Mastering the recording process

There are plenty of tricks that will make your videos look great with minimal effort. How you record will directly affect how much time you spend editing. I’ll show you how to optimize your recording process to save time later.

Simplifying the editing process

Editing is often the most dreaded part of screencasting. You have to watch yourself on camera, listen to your voice, and make constant adjustments. But it doesn't have to be a slog. I’ll teach you the philosophy behind fast, effective editing, so you can focus on producing a polished final product without getting stuck.

Publishing your finished course

Once your videos are ready, it’s time to get them out into the world. I’ll walk you through the publishing process so your content can make an impact.

Final thoughts

Screencasting can be transformative. I want you to make something you’re proud of and put it out into the world. When you do, I’d love to hear about it — send me an email!

Let’s get started and make your screencasting journey a success!
